As part of ongoing efforts to improve water quality and drinking-water conditions, a Taste and Odor Removal System has been designed, constructed, installed, and commissioned ,under the supervision and contract management of Kerman Water and Wastewater Company, by PNF Company.The system has been developed to treat water and reduce the compounds responsible for undesirable tastes and odors, thereby improving the overall quality and acceptability of the treated water.
Treatment Process
In the first stage, raw water from the well enters a tray aeration tower. Through the aeration process, a portion of the volatile compounds responsible for undesirable taste and odor is removed from the water.The water is then pumped to the next treatment stage, where it passes through a granular activated carbon (GAC) filter. The activated carbon adsorbs undesirable organic compounds and other substances, playing a key role in improving the taste, odor, and overall quality of the water.Finally, the treated water is transferred to water storage tanks for subsequent distribution and consumption.
System Capacity and Specifications
The system has a nominal treatment capacity of 7 liters per second, equivalent to approximately 25.2 cubic meters per hour and 605 cubic meters per day.During the design and operation of the system, key parameters—including filter pressure and pressure drop, flow-rate variations, aeration performance, and treated-water quality—are regularly monitored and evaluated to ensure reliable and efficient operation under optimal conditions.
Project Impact
The implementation of this project represents an important step toward improving drinking-water quality, reducing undesirable tastes and odors, and increasing consumer satisfaction. With proper operation and maintenance, the system is expected to significantly improve the quality and sensory characteristics of the treated water.
